John Stephen founded the business in 1976 having previously dealt in kiloware & mixtures selling to dealers throughout the world. Since he had compiled an extensive collection of used New Zealand he dealt initially only in that country. However he quickly expanded to deal in Australia, the Pacific Islands and the British West Indies. It was not long after this that he purchased a large British Commonwealth collection and once again expanded to deal - albeit with somewhat limited stock in the whole British Commonwealth. Since those early days the business has grown dramatically so that now ROWLAND HILL STAMPS has one of the best stocks of British Commonwealth in the United Kingdom.
 
Now the business has expenaded once again and the company stock a wide range of sets and better individual stamps from virtually every European country. As the director of Alexander Trading Co Ltd that now trades as ROWLAND HILL STAMPS, John Stephen has been a member of the PTS (Philatelic Traders Society) since 1969. Membership of this august body is seen as a sign of honesty & integrity by stamp collectors world-wide.
 
When John was originally seeking a suitable trading title he did not have far to look when he chose the venerated name of that great reformer who had been born in his own town of Kidderminster. The business has grown considerably since those early days and now trades from his home in Cookley on the outskirts of Kidderminster in the beautiful county of Worcestershire. Not surprisingly there are many modern security precautions in place and a considerable portion of the company's extensive stock is now housed in the bank.

Rowland Hill Stamp's clients are scattered throughout the British Isles as well as several European & overseas countries from which there is a considerable on-going demand for the fine stamps of the British Commonwealth stocked.
